Automated control of the milling circuit

Because mill output typically is defined in terms of a particle size specification, real-time particle size measurement is a routine choice for monitoring. Automating mill control on the basis of real-time measurement fully exploits the value of on-line technology, maximizing return on investment. Insitec on- and in-line systems are now used routinely across a number of industry sectors to fully automate mill control. The result is optimal product quality with minimal manual input.

Experimental work illustrates efficient techniques for data filtering and demonstrates how even simple automated control can transform milling efficiency. Steady state operation is smoother, and transition times, start-up or product changeover, are much shorter. Over-milling is eliminated, energy consumption falls and waste is reduced.
